An integral part of our business strategy

Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is an integral part of MAN Rollo’s business strategy. In every action we take, we take careful account of both its social and economic implications and its impact on the environment. We also work with our parent company Pon and MAN to structurally reduce our footprint, and MAN Rollo has committed to compensating for 100% of its carbon emissions.

The best option

for nature and the environment

In our dealings with our clients, we will consistently champion the best option in ecological and environmental terms. This can range from a recommendation to use alternative, ‘green’ fuels, to the re-use of parts or entire engines through our ReMAN programme. Indeed, this is one of the reasons why our Original Equipment Manufacturer MAN decided to join the Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTI).

This recognised initiative comes out of a collaboration between the Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP), the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute and the World Wide Fund for Nature. SBTI encourages ambitious climate action by the private sector, by helping companies to establish science-based emission reduction targets.

Compensating for 100% of our CO2 emissions

At MAN Rollo, we use a tracker to monitor our company-wide CO2 emissions. First, we established how much CO2 is released into the atmosphere during a specific type of activity. For example, a business trip to Duisburg in Germany. We use carbon offsetting to compensate for these emissions. Carbon offsetting involves emitting less CO2 or another greenhouse gas elsewhere to offset emissions here. This enables us to compensate for 100% of our total CO2 emissions.

Recycling and agreements with partners in the chain

Our ReMAN programme is a fine example of what you can achieve with recycling. Older MAN engines are given a second lease on life, and engines that have clearly reached the end of their useful service life are molten down.

We also have clear agreements with our dealers and service partners about various subjects. After all: when it comes to our joint future, we want everyone with whom we work to be on the same page. Together, we can keep our collective impact on the environment to a bare minimum.

We need to provide a pleasant and healthy work environment for our employees, and give them ample opportunity to develop further. At MAN Rollo, sustainability is part of our daily routine. Our MAN marine diesel engines can already run on 100% Hydrotreated Vegetable Oil (HVO) and we recently introduced the maritime sector to the new MAN hydrogen dual fuel engine. And we’re also a frontrunner when it comes to industrial applications, with natural gas engines that accept up to 20% hydrogen in the fuel mix.
