This powerful engine promises to have a significant impact on European waters.
With an output of 920 kW (1,250 hp) at 1,800 rpm and equipped with a very compact and flexibly installable exhaust aftertreatment system, the LE427 stands out for its impressive performance for heavy-duty applications. Thanks to its compact dimensions of 2235 x 1250 x 1320 mm, a vessel with this engine keeps more space for cargo or passengers, making it ideal for both new and existing vessels.
Needless to say, the LE427 is Stage V certified ex-factory. The low fuel consumption of 194 g/kWh and 217 liters per hour at maximum power stands out, making this engine not only powerful but also efficient. Moreover, the engine is also ex-factory compatible with regular marine diesel and HVO biofuel.
According to Hendrik Herrera, Maritime Account Manager at MAN Rollo, the LE427 is an important addition to the maritime sector, “MAN Rollo has a wide power range available in-house with the D38 series, which allows us to offer a solution for virtually any marine need. Specifically, the LE427 promises to be an ideal engine for a wide audience. What is also interesting is that we expect that a generator variant will also be available in early 2026, with 840 kW at 1500 rpm or 960 kW at 1800 rpm.”
Herrera emphasizes that the D38 series is unmatched in compactness. “If you look at the facts, we see that in terms of compactness we cannot be surpassed. This concerns not only the reduced dimensions of the engine block, but also certainly those of the exhaust aftertreatment system, which is also flexible to fit. Significantly, we see that professional passenger shipping is now choosing MAN in large numbers. This is mainly due to the compact installation dimensions, but also to the fact that we offer a European product that ranks among the top in terms of efficiency and reliability.”
The new MAN D3872LE427 will be on display during Maritime Industry in Gorinchem at the stands of dealers Vink, De Groot and Dolpower. A visit offers the opportunity to personally experience the combination of beauty and German thoroughness.
